São Nicolau is good for hiking too, like Santo Antão. The mountains are less wild than nearby Santo Antão, the valleys are broad and accessible. One can walk around or up to Monte Gordo 1.302 m, on marked trails, from where you can view the length of the island, both eastward and southward. You will pass little hamlets with exotic vegetation against a background of impressive mountain faces. This island is less visited than others, and has few inhabitants.
