Hymany Way, Portumna Bridge - Aughrim - Ballygar, 80 km, 4 days
No spectacular mountains on this way, but nonetheless valuable nature. The region is flat and drained by many small rivers: River Shannon, River Suck and Ballynure River. Different types of bogs, grassland and moorland are preserved, offering rich biotopes for flowers, insects and birds. In spring you will certainly hear (and maybe even spot) the corncrake. Therefore, the Hymany Way is a good pick for the nature lover.
The path also comes along several monuments, pointing back to the tumultuous history of Ireland. Inns and B&B’s can be found in the villages and towns.
The Hymany Way is part of the Beara Breifne Long Distance Path that runs from the Atlantic to Ulster through Ireland’s green centre. In the last village of the Hymany Way, Ballygar, starts the next trail, the Suck Valley Way.
