The "Groot-Frieslandpad" ("Noord Nederland Dwars", "West Friesland Dwars", "Westfries Dwars", "Poepenpad" or "Hollandgängerpad") is there. The trail changed names many times, and plans were made and delayed. The Groot-Frieslandpad crosses the northern provinces of Noord-Holland and Friesland, once territory of the Friesians.

Character of the walk: polders, lowlands, tulips, grass and cows. The former Zuiderzee, nowadays IJsselmeer, is crossed by ferry. The cities of Enkhuizen and Stavoren are well worth a close visit.

The Friesians are planning to continue their trail further east, into Drenthe and even into Germany, Leer.
